As a company who makes dog beds I would suggest that making a dog bed that is really chew proof is largely impossible and any companies that prompt indestructible beds are not being entirely transparent. Some dogs will always chew beds but others could be chewing for a reason. I thought I'd have a look at how we could prevent chewing instead.
The Importance of Durability and filling
Durability - If we come to the conclusion that no bed is going to be totally chew proof then the next best option is to choose a bed that is durable. Some cheaper beds are made of lighter cotton fabrics which are very easy to chew through. Choosing a bed made of a stronger poly/cotton or even a poly/cotton twill will be a better option.
Filling - I really believe that many dogs chew through their beds because they are not comfortable on them. Chewing may start with digging because the dog is trying to nest in the middle of the bed. Traditional foam beds do not naturally allow dogs to nest in the middle of them. Consider how your dogs like to sleep - if they enjoy curling up in a ball then a foam bed may not be a great fit. A bean bed could be a great option as these naturally promote nesting.
Environmental enrichment - Some dogs just like to chew, in many cases providing toys that they are allowed to chew on may focus attention away from their bedding.
